What is the Forum?
The Global Forum on Bioethics in Research (GFBR) is an informal partnership established by a number of organizations with a shared interest in the ethics of conducting research involving human beings in developing countries. The Forum meets approximately annually, with an emphasis on discussion. Meetings began in Bethesda , USA in 1999. Since that inaugural meeting, the GFBR have convened in Bangkok , Thailand in 2000; Cape Town , South Africa in February 2002; Brasilia , Brazil in October 2002; Paris , France in 2004; Blantyre , Malawi in 2005; Karachi , Pakistan in 2006; and Vilnius , Lithuania in 2007. Following that, the 2008 meeting has been confirmed in December 3-5 in Auckland , New Zealand.
